How to put your Switch into recovery mode and inject payloads, or boot using a Switch with a modchip.

What You Need

  • Unpatched/Modchipped Switch
  • MicroSD Card (64GB+)
  • A Device To Inject, Or Modchip
  • USB Cable (Unpatched)

Getting Started

  1. Make sure you have the Hekate bootloader folder on the root of your microSD card, and the corresponding hekate_ctcaer_x.x.x.bin payload. If you don’t have them click the link below and extract the hekate_ctcaer_x.x.x_Nyx_x.x.x.zip to the root of your microSD card.

  1. Copy the hekate_ctcaer_x.x.x.bin to your desktop (MacOS/Linux, RCM Loader and Windows only).

  1. Insert your microSD card into your Switch unless you have a modchip fitted or are using the SX Pro.

Entering Recovery Mode

  • Unpatched Switch only.
  1. Remove the right joy-con and insert the jig, and push it all the way down into the bottom of the joy-con rail.

  1. Press and hold the Volume + button for 2 seconds, continue to hold, tap the Power button then let go of both buttons. Your screen should remain black and your Switch will be in RCM.

  1. Remove the jig and reconnect the right joy-con.

  1. Install Rekado on your device and open it.

  1. In the Payloads category, click the + button to select a preloaded payload (hekate_ctcaer_x.x.x.bin) from your device’s storage. Or simply transfer your payload (hekate_ctcaer_x.x.x.bin) to the Rekado folder in the device’s memory.

  1. Connect your Switch to your device using a USB cable (allow permission for USB access if necessary), then inject the latest Hekate payload (hekate_ctcaer_x.x.x.bin).

  1. Your Switch will boot into Hekate (or any other payload you inject).
  1. Remove the USB cable.

MacOS & Linux

  • Use the Chrome web browser.
  1. Connect your Switch to your PC using a USB cable.
  1. Click the link below and use the website to inject the hekate_ctcaer_x.x.x.bin.

  1. Click Choose file and select the hekate_ctcaer_x.x.x.bin on your desktop.

  1. Once the hekate_ctcaer_x.x.x.bin has been uploaded to the website click Do the thing!.

  1. Select APX > Connect and the website will inject the payload.

  1. Your Switch will boot into Hekate (or any other payload you inject).
  1. Remove the USB cable.

RCM Loader

  1. Copy the hekate_ctcaer_x.x.x.bin on your desktop to the ATMOSPHERE folder on your RCM Loader.

  1. Delete the existing payload.bin that’s already there and rename the hekate_ctcaer_x.x.x.bin to payload.bin.

  1. Open the LAUNCH.TXT and check the text shows as: \ATMOSPHERE\PAYLOAD.BIN.

  1. Insert the RCM Loader into your Switch.
  1. Your Switch will boot into Hekate (or any other payload you inject).
  1. Remove the RCM Loader.

Switch With Modchip

  1. Rename the hekate_ctcaer_x.x.x.bin on the root of your microSD card to payload.bin (all modchips regardless of firmware).

    • If your modchip is not flashed with Spacecraft-NX or HWFLY-NX you will need to download the SX_Gear_v1.1.zip from the link below and extract it to the root of your microSD card as well.

SX Pro

  1. Rename the hekate_ctcaer_x.x.x.bin on the root of your microSD card to payload.bin (all modchips regardless of firmware).

  1. Open the TegraRcmGUI_vx.x_portable.zip and copy the TegraRcmGUI_vx.x_portable folder to your desktop. Open it and run TegraRcmGUI.exe.

  1. Go to Settings > Install Driver > follow the installer instructions to install the APX Device Driver. Click the Payload tab once it’s installed.

  1. Connect your Switch to your PC using a USB cable, you will see RCM O.K in TegraRcmGUI.

  1. Click the folder icon in TegraRcmGUI and select the hekate_ctcaer_x.x.x.bin file on your desktop, then click on Inject Payload.
